Ingredient swaps
- Vegetable toppings - some folks say they wouldn't be caught dead with green peppers on their Philly. Mushrooms and onions make a delicious topping choice as well. To make this a more authentic version be sure to just choose with or without onions! No judgement here though, there's no right or wrong way as far as we're concerned.
- Cheese - you can use provolone, Swiss, Monterey Jack, or Cheez Whiz for this recipe.
How to make this
Step 1: Cook the vegetables
Slice the green peppers and onions. Preheat the griddle to about 325- to 350- degrees. Add a little cooking oil to the flat top, and then add the prepared vegetables. Add Creole seasoning then salt and pepper to taste.
Cook the vegetables until browned and softened. Be sure to move and flip them so they don't get burned. If desired you can move to one part of the griddle to start cooking the meat. Once they are done cooking remove to dish.
Step 2: Cook the meat
I used Steakumms for this recipe, but you can use any similar product. One box of 14 steaks goes a very long way. You can easily feed four with leftovers for another dinner. You will be cooking them from frozen.
Add a little more oil to the flat top if needed. Put enough steaks as you can on the griddle. Cook until half browned then flip and finish cooking until no longer pink. Add to dish with green peppers.
Once all the meat is finished cooking you will want to chop the meat. Take two knives and in a crosswise motion cut or chop the meat. Once done mix the meat up together.
